Salto del Laja – A Perfect Day Trip in Southern Chile

It was such a rare sunny day that staying home just didn't feel right. Since this was a last-minute plan, we decided to visit a waterfall less than 100 km from home.

We found Salto del Laja simply by searching on Google Maps. We didn't do any research beforehand and honestly weren't expecting much—we just didn't want to waste such beautiful weather and wanted to spend some time in nature.

Mirador Salto Grande, Torres del Paine

After parking the car, it’s about a 30-minute walk to reach the viewpoint. Along the way, you can stop at a small lakeside hut for lunch, and you might even run into hikers returning by boat after finishing their trek. The wind gets pretty strong as you get closer to the waterfall. The main waterfall itself is impressive, and when the sun comes out, the photos turn out amazing.

The infamous Patagonian wind in Torres del Paine is something you’ll never forget. Even if you think you’re prepared, it’s hard to imagine what it’s really like until you experience it yourself.
