The best waterfalls in North Yorkshire

The cold finally let go a couple of weeks ago. You know the feeling — one day it's still dark at 4pm and you're living in three layers, and then suddenly the light's hanging around past five and your whole body is telling you to go outside and do something. So last weekend we did. Destination: Ingleton, a little town in the Yorkshire Dales with a waterfall trail I'd had bookmarked for months and never got round to.

We drove from Manchester, which took about an hour and a half. If you're coming from Leeds instead, the train works too — also around an hour and a half, though Ingleton itself doesn't have its own station, so you're getting off at Bentham and finishing the last bit by taxi or bus. Either way, it's a proper one-day-trip distance. Not a schlep, not a five-minute pop-over either.

The plan was: walk first, town after. So we parked up and headed straight into Falls Park for the waterfall trail.
