Have you heard of Gibraltar Falls in Canberra? Even though people often say Canberra is a bit “boring”, the natural scenery is honestly one of its biggest highlights. When you have time, it’s always worth getting out and exploring places like this. Gibraltar Falls is a relatively underrated spot. The environment here is stunning — lush, peaceful, and the water is incredibly clear. It’s a place we’ve visited quite a few times, and almost every friend or relative we bring here ends up loving it too. It still feels like a bit of a hidden gem, mostly visited by locals rather than tourists. People often come here for picnics, and during warmer months you’ll even see some swimming in the water. We’ve definitely seen quite a few doing that. It’s also a great spot in different seasons — we’ve been in both warmer weather and colder months, and it always looks beautiful. In summer the waterfall flow is stronger, which makes it even more impressive. There’s also a reservoir nearby, so it’s a nice area for a relaxed day out. If you have a car in Canberra, getting here is quite easy. Fun little memory: we actually came here during the rare snowfall in Canberra before, and the whole area was covered in snow — absolutely magical. Location: Gibraltar Falls Corin Rd, Paddys River ACT 2620 About a 30+ minute drive from central Canberra. There’s a car park and toilets right at the trail entrance, which makes it very convenient. After parking, you just follow the signs uphill to the waterfall lookout. Even if you’re not into hiking, the walk is easy and safe, and you can still get a great close-up view of the waterfall from the lookout platform. For those who enjoy a bit more adventure, there are also forest trails where you can explore further and try to find paths leading closer to the top of the falls. The scenery along the way is especially beautiful — peaceful bushland and natural views all around.
