Getting there: The waterfall is about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Chiang Mai Old City. The mountain roads have many curves, so driving or riding a motorbike can be tiring and requires some confidence. If you prefer an easier option, hiring a private car with a local driver is more comfortable and safer, especially if you are not familiar with mountain roads. We originally planned to visit Mae Tia Waterfall, but found that it is closed from June to 30 September due to the rainy season. Instead, we went to Mae Ya Waterfall nearby, which turned out to be a great alternative. The waterfall has a strong water flow, and many locals come here to relax and enjoy the water. Navigation: Search for “Mae Ya Waterfall”. We started from the Nimman area, with a round trip of over 150 kilometres. It was a long and hot journey, but also very enjoyable. The route is straightforward with no complex turns, although there are many curves on the mountain roads. Riding slowly makes it safe overall. There are plenty of petrol stations and convenience stores along the way, so there is no need to worry about fuel or supplies. Things to note There is an entrance fee of 300 THB per adult, plus an additional 20 THB if you bring a motorbike. It is considered one of the more expensive attractions in the Chiang Mai area. Overall, this is still highly recommended. The waterfall is large and impressive, and you can enter the water to cool off. It is a great place to escape the heat before heading back.
