Weekend Hike: Standing at the Top of Morans Falls 📍 Lamington National Park We finally got around to Morans Falls Track this weekend. Here's the breakdown, the way I'd want someone to lay it out for me before I went. Difficulty Officially graded 4 out of 5. The track itself is fairly narrow, so you'll need to step aside for people coming the other way. There's some moss and mud in spots that gets slippery, and not many steps overall. All that said, it's genuinely fine for a wide range of ages — we saw kids and older walkers on it without any drama. The part that actually tests you is the drive in. Getting into Lamington involves a lot of winding mountain road and some sharp switchbacks, so pay attention behind the wheel more than on the trail itself. Time It's 4.4km return, and the official suggested time is about 1.5 hours. With our four-year-old in tow, plus a lunch break and some time playing in the water, it took us close to three hours all up. Budget accordingly if you've got small kids with you. Scenery The whole track runs through mature subtropical rainforest — birdsong and insect noise the entire way, and there's a real chance of spotting an adult tiger snake, so keep your eyes on the path. At the end of the track, the lookout looks out over the falls, and from there you can pick your way along the creek and over the boulders to get right up to the edge of the falls (you'll see it in some photos). I wouldn't actually recommend doing that last bit — but plenty of visitors clearly do, and some of them are far more confident on wet rock than I am. Nearby It's about a 1km walk from the track to the O'Reilly's hotel and café, and the treetop walk near the hotel is worth a lap on its own if you've got the energy left. If you're turning it into a full day out, the winery and the alpaca farm at the bottom of the mountain are a nice way to round things off.
