Pongour Falls, Vietnam On a weekend motorbike ride around Da Lat, after leaving Da Nhim Temple Village, we still had some time in the afternoon, so we headed to Pongour Falls (Thác Pongour). The waterfall is located on the Da Nhim River, and the ride there offers beautiful views of the river and the surrounding countryside. The entrance fee is 40,000 VND, plus 5,000 VND for motorbike parking, making the total 45,000 VND. From the parking area, there is still a walk to reach the waterfall. You need to descend into the valley before the falls come into view. Part of the trail includes a fairly steep staircase, so take your time and watch your footing. If you don't want to walk, there is a shuttle service inside the park that takes visitors closer to the waterfall. Pongour Falls is known as the "Greatest Waterfall of Southern Vietnam." Perhaps because we visited during the dry season, the water flow wasn't particularly strong. The waterfall is over 100 metres wide, making it feel very impressive, although it is only about 40 metres high. What makes Pongour Falls unique is its naturally formed seven-tier rock terraces. Water flows over the layered rock steps, creating countless smaller cascades that resemble long strips of white silk. Each level flows into the next, creating a beautiful and distinctive landscape. During the rainy season, when the water volume is much higher, the powerful torrents rush over the stone terraces, making the waterfall even more spectacular. There are large boulders in front of the falls where you can climb up for photos. The views are fantastic, but be careful as the rocks can be slippery. There is also a local legend connected to the waterfall. It is said that Pongour Falls was formed from a beautiful ancient K'Ho tribal chief named Kanai and her four loyal rhinoceroses. The rhinoceroses' horns are believed to have transformed into the waterfall's layered rock terraces. Near the entrance to the attraction, you'll find a rhinoceros statue with information about this legend. There are also plenty of small stalls near the waterfall selling drinks and local food.
