A Full Day at Huangguoshu Falls, and Why You Should Budget the Whole Day

We got to Anshun West station at nine in the morning and caught the shuttle bus straight into the scenic area, which cost 22 yuan a person and took about 45 minutes. I'd bought the ticket at the station counter on the way in, though on the way back we just used the mini program instead, which was a lot less faff. From the first ticket centre, our route was Doupotang, then up to the panoramic viewing platform, then the main falls, then Tianxingqiao. My friend and I both like walking more than we like standing around, so we took our time, and it was five in the evening by the time we got back to the ticket centre. Every stop between the sights was clearly signposted, the shuttle buses ran like clockwork, and honestly the whole park deserves some credit for how smooth it all felt.

If you're not someone who walks a lot normally, go in expecting it — doing every sight in one day put us well past 30,000 steps by the end.

Yangpidong Waterfall (羊皮洞瀑布) is a free, undeveloped waterfall in Qingzhen, about 70 km from Guiyang in China's Guizhou province. It drops roughly 40 metres out of a cave in a limestone cliff. The walk down to it is steep and muddy, and takes 30 to 50 minutes each way.

I went four years ago while I was travelling around Guiyang. A video of the falls had come up online and I wanted to see it for myself. This post covers what the trip was like, how the two routes work, and what I would tell a friend before they went.
