Waterfall height

Sitting in a car for an hour doesn’t mean you have to go to Klang for bak kut teh. You can also go to Batu Bertenggek! It’s a small waterfall hidden in Kerling. You walk into the forest listening to the sound of water, sit next to a big rock and zone out, and every now and then look at the scenery. An hour in the car, and it feels like the drive wasn’t wasted. I think a lot of people still don’t know about this quiet waterfall! You hike about 30 minutes through the forest, and at the end you see a really spectacular waterfall. Getting there I left KL at 6am and it took one hour to arrive. I parked right at the entrance, and it was free. We started hiking at 7am. The path goes like this: a flat muddy path, then up and down slopes, then a fork, then a rock wall. It’s about 1.5km in total. Most of it is a flat path with a bit of yellow mud, and the only hard part is the highest point, where you need to climb over rocks to get up to the waterfall. By 8am we were at the waterfall. Wow, it was so spectacular! The sound of the water was so healing. The waterfall At the highest point you can see a vertical waterfall, with water crashing down from over ten metres up. It’s powerful, and it throws out a fine mist, and sitting below it is really comfortable and cool. The water downstream is long and wide, with deep parts and shallow parts, good for families to play in, and the water is clean too. I soaked my body in the mountain water. It was cool, and it’s really a good place to relax and let go of stress. Nature therapy! Every hike gives a different experience, and this time there was a free fish spa on my feet. There were also lots of cute dogs who came to hike, and I saw rows of green butterflies standing in a line. If you’re not in a hurry you can stay here for several hours, playing in the water, feeling the breeze, looking at the view, and having fun with the rocks and the waterfall. The area around the waterfall is big, so it’s great for a picnic and playing in the water. The butterflies This waterfall has so many butterflies, even more than I saw in the butterfly park. Green, blue, yellow, white and brown ones flew everywhere along the way, especially near the waterfall. It was my first time seeing the Rajah Brooke’s birdwing in the wild, the national butterfly of Malaysia. It’s big and beautiful and flies very fast, and when it glides it looks like a little airplane. Crowds and parking No permit is needed here, so there are a lot of people. On the way back people kept coming in, and I’d say go early, or parking is hard to find. At 9am on a Saturday morning there were already a lot of cars. There aren’t proper parking spaces, so you need to park by the roadside. There also weren’t any toilets, as far as I saw. I changed my clothes in the car, which was a bit funny. Going on a public holiday meant fewer people and fresh air, and the early risers even got the VIP spots for photos. If you want nice, relaxed photos, get up early and avoid the crowds. What to bring The sections of the path are clear, so it’s very good for beginners. I recommend waterproof, non-slip shoes. Safety first! Also bring a waterproof bag and mosquito repellent. Overall the scenery is good, the walk isn’t long and the difficulty is low, so it’s just right as a small weekend escape. Batu Bertenggek, Kerling, Selangor
