Huangguoshu Falls

Huangguoshu Waterfall | 6-hour, 12km non-stop walking guide! No VIP tickets! No escalator tickets! Only standard entry ticket + sightseeing bus! There are plenty of rest areas, and you can take sightseeing buses between attractions — it’s not too difficult at all. My route (no backtracking): Tianxingqiao Scenic Area → Huangguoshu Waterfall → Doupotang Waterfall Starting with Tianxingqiao helps avoid tour group crowds and gives a better experience. Tianxingqiao Scenic Area (the real highlight is at the back!) The first half is quite average — the real magic is in the second half. You can quickly pass the front section and head straight to the back. Must-see spots in the second half: • Tianxing Cave: stunning limestone formations shaped over millions of years • Silver Chain Falls (Yinlian Zhuitan Waterfall): the hidden gem of Tianxingqiao — water flows like thousands of silver chains dropping into a deep pool. The sound is deafening, and mist hits your face at the viewing platform. Photos simply can’t capture its scale • Water Stone Forest: river water weaving through rock cracks, sunlight filtering through trees and sparkling on the surface Tip: You can just do the second half (about 2 hours). The front half can be done in ~30 minutes but isn’t essential — the back section is the soul of Tianxingqiao. Huangguoshu Waterfall (finally seeing the main attraction!) Take the sightseeing bus to the main waterfall area. Walk through the bonsai garden, then follow the boardwalk down. At the bottom, many people stop to take photos — don’t rush. Walk further back for better angles. The descent is easy and doesn’t require the elevator. The return trip is via the same stairs, so you can test your stamina. If you don’t want to climb back, you can buy a one-way elevator ticket. Tip: Definitely book and walk through Water Curtain Cave (Shuilian Dong)! You’ll pass behind the waterfall and see it through a “crystal curtain” of water. Bring a raincoat in advance — some areas inside get heavily splashed. Doupotang Waterfall (nostalgic finish!) The last scenic area is the easiest walk and perfect as a final stop. This is also a filming location for the ending scene of the 1986 *Journey to the West* TV series (“You lead the horse, I carry the load”). There’s also a higher viewing point for Huangguoshu Waterfall, but we skipped it — you can go if you still have energy. Practical tips Shoes: Wear anti-slip, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes — the stone paths are wet and slippery from mist Raincoat: Essential for Water Curtain Cave and Silver Chain Falls areas. Raincoats are better than umbrellas; protect your phone/camera Food: No need to carry too much. Buy food at exits instead of entrances (entrance is more expensive). Near the waterfall exit there are many options (KFC, Luckin Coffee, Gongding Tea, Dicos, etc.) Sun protection: UV is strong in Guizhou — sunscreen and physical protection are both necessary
