This season is perfect for hiking in Yosemite. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold, and the waterfalls are flowing at full force. There are plenty of trails in Yosemite Valley, ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes. Yosemite Falls Trail is one of the oldest hiking routes in Yosemite National Park, dating back to around 1880. The round-trip distance is about 7.2 miles, with roughly 2,700 feet of elevation gain, making it a strenuous hike. Definitely know your limits and hike at your own pace. There are three main turnaround points along the trail: Columbia Rock * Distance: About 1 mile, with 1,000 feet of elevation gain. * Experience: This section is made up of endless switchbacks. Most of the trail is shaded, so although it's tiring, the reward at Columbia Rock is incredible. You'll be treated to panoramic views of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and Sentinel Rock. * Many hikers with limited energy choose to turn around here. Upper Fall View * Continue another 0.5 mile. This section is mostly flat and even descends slightly. * Here, you'll get your first close-up view of Upper Yosemite Fall (photo 4). The sight is truly impressive, especially in spring when the water volume is at its peak. * This stretch is relatively easy, so if you're running low on energy, this is another great place to turn back. The Final Climb * The final section is much rougher, with loose rocks and little shade. * You'll be fully exposed to the sun, and it's common to see hikers tackling this section shirtless. * Make sure to wear sunscreen, bring plenty of water, and know your limits. Yosemite Falls Trail isn't an easy hike, but the views make every step worthwhile. Whether you stop at Columbia Rock, Upper Fall View, or push all the way to the top, you'll still experience some of the most spectacular scenery in Yosemite.
